I recently read a great article that asked the question: Why does the web love cats? It got me thinking. I got on YouTube and started looking up cat videos. The majority of them were hilarious. Just look up “funny cat videos” and you will be overwhelmed. I started viewing them all the while trying to figure out the magic recipe. What makes those videos funny? Why are cat videos even funnier and more readily available than dog ones?
Cats are cute, but more importantly, they are curious. I believe it is due to the curiosity and strong mind of felines that they provide endless funny material.
Let us analyze for a moment the top 10 funny cat videos on YouTube.
#1. The Talking Cat: A tuxedo kitten “speaks” in a husky voice that sound too much like a human cussing.
#2. Cat Eats From Chopsticks: This furry fellow looks terribly serious as he stands on his hind legs and eats… out of chopsticks!
#3. Cat Shower: A kitty proceeds to drink water directly out of a faucet, but in between “sips” dunks her head under the stream of water.
#4. Boxing Kitten: An orange tabby watches a boxing match and throws punches in the air.
#5. The Noisy Drinking Cat: All this cat does is dip his paw in a glass of milk and drink making lots of noise.
#6. Nora/Practice Makes Purr-fect. A kitty, Nora, lays her head on the piano keys with passion and expression, as she “plays” a tune with her paw.
#7. Stalking Cat: Not much happens in this one, except we get to watch a cat stalk, as all predators do, and then run away skittishly.
#8. The OMG WTF Cat: This one comes with a warning. Do not watch if you are feeling grumpy.
#9. Hungry, Hungry Kitten!: What is new? I often refer to hungry cats as sharks.
#10. Surprised Kitty: A baby kitten on its back startles as it throws all four paws up in the air as the human startles it.
All those videos will get even those allergic to cats, literally or figuratively, at least break a smile, but in my opinion, the best and the really funny cat videos always involve a dog. We have all been raised to believe that cats and dogs do not get along, but for all funny cat video fans, the secret is out: throw a puppy into the mix and you are sure to get a cute if not hilarious video.
One more thing about funny cat videos. They are more likely to go viral!
