Which one is the turtle? Finally the prize money “500,000 yen”
岡山・玉野市の渋川動物公園からアルダブラゾウガメが脱走してから２週間がたった。足が遅いゾウガメだが、周辺の捜索でも見つかっておらず、ついに最高で５０万円の懸賞金までかけられた。
今月１日、全長９０センチ・体重５５キロのメスのアルダブラゾウガメ「アブー」が逃げ出した。
ゾウガメは普段から園の中で放し飼いにされているが、開園前の午前８時半頃、飼育員がゾウガメを小屋から出した後、目を離した隙に園外に逃げ出していったという。
渋川動物公園によると、「逃げ出すはずがない」と油断していて、昼になるまでいなくなったことに気づかなかったという。
今のところ、脱走したゾウガメの手がかりは、ほとんどないという。そのため、渋川動物公園は１４日、見つけた人に５０万円のお礼を出すと発表した。
ただ、１日午前８時４０分頃、入り口に設置されている防犯カメラは、逃走するゾウガメを捉えていた。ゾウガメの小屋から３０メートルほど離れた場所で、ゾウガメがゆっくりと移動している様子が映っていた。
ゾウガメは、どのくらいのスピードで移動するのか。脱走したカメと同じ種類のアルダブラゾウガメがいる千葉市動物公園を訪ねた。
千葉市動物公園で飼育されているゾウガメは３頭。中には体重２５７キロと、脱走したゾウガメの５倍ほどにも及ぶカメもいる。
普段はじっとしていることが多いというゾウガメ。移動する時は、体は非常に重そうだが、ゆっくりゆっくりと動く。２０メートル進むのに３分ほどかかった。
また、ゾウガメは１か月ほどエサを食べなくても大丈夫だという。
渋川動物公園では今後も、スタッフによる捜索活動を続けていくという。
