Confirm strengthening foreign and defense ministerial defense capacity of Japan and the US
アメリカのトランプ政権発足後、初めてとなる日米の外務・防衛閣僚協議「２プラス２」が１７日、ワシントンで開かれた。北朝鮮の脅威に対処するため、日米の防衛能力を強化することなどを確認し、合意文書を発表した。
協議には、日本から河野外相と小野寺防衛相、アメリカからはティラーソン国務長官とマティス国防長官が出席した。この中で日米は、「北朝鮮に対する圧力をかけ続ける」ことや、中国に対して北朝鮮へ「断固とした措置」をとるよう強く求める方針を確認した。
また、日米の防衛力を強化する方針でも一致。アメリカの核兵器の抑止力によって日本は守られていることや、安全保障関連法の下での「さらなる協力」を検討することなどを確認した。
４人は協議の後にそろって会見に臨み、これらの成果を盛り込んだ合意文書を発表、日米の連携強化をアピールした。
