「CAN YOU CELEBRATE？」などのヒット曲を連発し、人気が社会現象にもなった歌手の安室奈美恵さんが、１年後の来年９月で芸能界から引退することを明らかにしました。安室さんは引退について「長年心に思い、デビュー２５周年という節目の年に決意した」とコメントしています。
これは、安室さんが４０歳の誕生日となる２０日、ホームページで発表しました。
この中で、安室さんは「先日９月１６日に無事、デビュー２５周年を迎えることができました。私が長年心に思い、この２５周年という節目の年に決意した事を書きたいと思います」と切り出したうえで「わたくし安室奈美恵は２０１８年９月１６日をもって引退することを決意致しました」などと記し、１年後の来年９月に芸能界から引退することを明らかにしました。
そのうえで「引退までのこの１年、アルバムやコンサート、最後にできる限りの事を精一杯し、有意義な１年にしていきたいと思っています」とつづっています。
安室さんは沖縄県の出身でアイドルグループのメンバーとして平成４年にデビューしたあとソロ活動を始め、音楽プロデューサーの小室哲哉さんの下でヒット曲を連発しました。
中でも平成９年にリリースした「CAN YOU CELEBRATE？」は、シングルの売り上げが２００万枚を超え、この記録は今も国内の女性歌手の中で歴代トップとなっています。
人気は社会現象にもなり、安室さんのヘアスタイルや、ミニスカートに厚底のブーツといったファッションをまねる女性を言い表した「アムラー」という言葉は平成８年の流行語にも選ばれました。
去年のリオデジャネイロオリンピックとパラリンピックでは、「Hero」がＮＨＫの放送テーマソングに選ばれたほか、今月、デビュー２５周年のライブを沖縄で行うなど、第一線で活躍を続けています。
