The cats will be on advertising boards for 2 weeks from 12 Sept.
The aim is to produce a “relaxing, fun and light-hearted” space free from commercial adverts, Cats said.
James Turner, from the collective, said: “It’s really caught people’s imagination – everyone loves cats.
“The idea of a soothing and peaceful space just with pictures of cats and kittens is appealing. People are interested because there is absolutely no brand, no commercial reason for carrying it out. ”
‘What the internet loves’
The images will be round the turnstiles (which your collective are calling kitty flaps), down the escalators and before the platform. The aim is that, wherever people look, there will be felines.
The adverts will be word-free besides one which will highlight the project of Battersea Cats and dogs Home and Cat Safeguard charities.
The idea emerged from a 200-strong group called Glimpse, which wanted to show how “friends and experiences are definitely more valuable than stuff you are able to buy” said Mr Turner.
Initially they were about to use pictures of forests as well as the ocean.
“But then we seriously considered grabbing people’s attention and should use the one solution that the internet likes and cats were well-known answer, ” he added.
He said he loved the thought as it was “very subversive, as there’s nothing anyone can perform about it”.
“If you can’t have a real cat, this will be the subsequent best thing, ” he added.
